Hill’s Canine Prescription Diet c/d
For the Nutritional Management of Urinary Tract Disease Associated with Struvite Crystals
Urinary tract disease is associated with the build-up of crystals and stones in the urinary tract that can cause painful and bloody urination and potential blockage in your dog. One type of crystal that forms in a dog’s urinary tract is called struvite. Prescription Diet c/d dog food is formulated specifically to provide nutritional management of struvite-related urinary tract disease. Prescription Diet c/d has reduced levels of magnesium and phosphorus, and also produces an acid urine pH to aid in the management of struvite crystals and stones.
Why has my pet been prescribed this diet?
Your pet has been given a specific prescription diet for the nutritional management of
struvite-related urinary tract disease.
Key benefits of this diet are:
· Reduced levels of magnesium, phosphorus and protein.
· Target urine pH = 6.2-6.4 (inhibits formation of some urinary crystals)
· Water levels increased in canned formula
· Superior anti-oxidant formula.
The aim of this diet is to significantly improve your pets' clinical signs. To objectively assess this it is ideal to monitor on a daily basis the presence and severity of your pets' symptoms.
Signs of Lower Urinary Tract Disease include:
· Abnormal urinary habits e.g. straining, increased frequency, abnormal locations,
loud vocalisation whilst attempting to urinate, and the presence of blood in the
urine.
· Behavioural changes e.g. restlessness, hiding away, poor appetite.
· Excessive licking of the perineal region.
It is extremely important whilst your pet is on this diet that you avoid feeding any other food types (including treats) as even small amounts of the wrong food can lead to an unsuccessful outcome. If you have any questions or are uncertain whether some foods are OK to feed, please phone and ask first before doing so.
Your pet is on a prescription diet. It is important that appropriate follow up visits are organised to monitor your pet’s progress on this diet so we can assess product effectiveness and ensure that your pet is doing as well as possible.
Please check that an appointment or reminder has been made. This may involve health checks, blood or urine tests, weight checks etc. Many visits can be organised with our veterinary nursing staff or nutritional advisors.
PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT US TO DISCUSS YOUR PET’S PROGRESS.
