We offer a comprehensive range of veterinary and pet health related services. Scroll down the page for more information.
General Veterinary Services
To ensure that your pet has the healthiest life possible, our vet services team can help you with
advice, treatment and education. Our clinic has a full range of medical facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of dogs, cats and other small pets.
One of the most important services our clinic offers is routine checkups. Annual health checks are important to identify any possible health problems and are a great time to make sure all vaccinations and parasite management is up to date. In general, vaccinations are due every 1-2 years, depending on the type of vaccine used.
Surgery
Our surgery is equipped to perform most types of surgery with modern anaesthetic machines, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory monitors. Our veterinarians perform an extensive range of surgeries such as desexing, caesarians, tumour and lump removals, exploratory surgery, abscess repair, orthopaedic surgery, wound repair, intestinal obstructions, and more.
As with human surgery, our veterinarians scrub up, wear surgical attire and safety protection as well as using autoclaved instruments throughout the procedure. A fully trained veterinary nurse assists the veterinarian and continually monitors your pet throughout the procedure.
Preventative Care
Vaccinations, parasite control and health checkups play an important role in the long term wellness of our patients. Dogs should be vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza and Kennel cough. Cats should be vaccinated against Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus (Cat Flu), Chlamydia, Feline Infectious Enteritis and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). A health check is undertaken at the time of your pet's vaccination. Sometimes we can detect a problem of which you might not be aware. This is also an opportunity to discuss your pet's diet, weight and behaviour or any other questions that may concern you.
General Pet Care Advice
Our nurses are trained animal health advisors. If you need pet care advice without wanting to see a vet, please feel free to ask one of our nurses and they will endeavour to answer any questions you may have. You can also ask advice on the control and eradication of fleas, worms, and various other creepy crawlies.
Hospital Care
There are numerous reasons why some of our patients are hospitalised including recovery from illness, treatment and pre operative or post operative care. We have separate hospital cages for cats and dogs, as well as an independent isolation area for any infectious cases. Our hospital cages are hygienic, and have clean bedding that is made from a special material that stays warm and dry.
Dentistry
A dental check up may highlight the need for cleaning, polishing, tooth extraction or even just a change in diet. Remember, your pet will look and function better and also live longer with healthy teeth and gums.
It's true that a high percentage of aging pets suffer from some degree of periodontal disease. This is a condition in which bacteria attack the gum tissue causing a foul odour, yellowish brown crusts of tartar around the gum line and even pain and bleeding when your pet eats or you touch its gums.
Desexing
Surgical desexing involves removing part of the reproductive system while the animal is under a general anaesthetic. There are many different names to describe this procedure but the correct word for females is spay and for males it is castration or neutering.
Pathology Services
We are able to perform a few in house pathology tests such as basic blood tests and cytology, thus giving faster diagnosis and treatment. For more detailed testing we use the services of Gribbles, a specialist laboratory.
Pharmacy
It is often necessary to medicate pets with specific drugs to treat ongoing health issues. Similar to human medications, many drugs have legal restrictions on their use and can only be dispensed under certain conditions. As prescriptions are only valid for six months, it is a requirement that your pet be seen by the vet every six months to allow repeat prescriptions to be filled.
We keep our pharmacy fully stocked not only for your convenience but also for emergencies. If your pet has an ongoing condition and requires a repeat medication we recommend that you ring us first so that we can ensure that the prescription is approved and ready to go when you arrive.
Puppy School
If you want to own a well socialised, well behaved dog, then why not join our puppy pre-school to learn some important facts about bringing up your dog. Visit our Puppy Pre School page for more information.
Microchip implantation and scanning
Microchips help avoid the heartache of losing your pet. A microchip contains a code that is linked to a local and/or national database. This means if your pet gets lost, the SPCA, an animal control officer or a vet can scan your pet for the microchip and access your contact details from the National Database. We have the scanning technology to be able to easily identify your pet if they are brought to our clinic. Each year many lost pets are successfully reunited with their owners with the assistance of microchip technology.
Radiology
Our x-ray facilities allow us to investigate animal injuries and health problems. Having the equipment on hand means we are able to quickly diagnose injuries particularly in emergency situations. This is convenient for you as your pet can have all treatment done at the clinic and also means our patients are given the best opportunity for recovery.
Pet Shop
We offer a range pet care products including premium foods, shampoos, parasite control products, grooming implements, toys and more. If you have any special needs we can also arrange for products to be ordered, simply ask at reception.
Weight Clinics
Feeding the correct diet to your pet is a must for a long and healthy life. Our nurses are trained to give expert advice regarding nutrition. Obesity can cause many health problems for dogs and cats. If you feel your pet may be overweight, feel free to come into our clinic and ask about our weight loss programs. Visit our Weight Clinic page for more information.
